Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 now available

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 now available
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 now available
The Galaxy Tab A 7.0 is an affordable 7-inch tablet for a low starting price of 170 Euros.
Available starting today in most European regions, the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 Edition carries a 7-inch HD resolution (1280 x 800) display and measures just 186.9 x 108.8 x 8.7 mm with a weight of 283 grams. Internal storage tops out at 8 GB and the system runs Android 5.1 Lollipop as standard. There is no word on potential updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the chances of an official update are unlikely given the budget class of the device. Color options include Black and White.
The core hardware of the tablet is an unspecified 1.3 GHz quad-core SoC with 1.5 GB RAM and MicroSD support up to 200 GB. Rear and front cameras are 5 MP and 2 MP, respectively.
Communication and interfaces include 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz only), Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, and a USB 2.0 port. The internal 4000 mAh battery is rated for up to 9 hours of video playback.
The Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 follows on the footsteps of the much older Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 that launched three years ago with weaker hardware and a higher starting price of just under 200 Euros. The Samsung tablet competes against the Nexus 7 2013, which is still one of the best Android tablets available for the screen size and price. Amazon recently jumped several spots to become one of the world's largest tablet providers with its similar lineup of very inexpensive offerings.

Fossil unveils Q Wander and Q Marshal wearables

Fossil Q Wander Android Wear smartwatch starts at $275 USD
Fossil Q Wander
The two new members of the Q lineup are powered by Android Wear and support wireless charging, aiming to compete with Motorola's Moto 360 and the Huawei Watch.
With tablets and laptops slowly fading away, the future looks promising for convertibles and connected wearables such as fitness trackers or smartwatches. Fossil has big plans for this year, as they promised to launch no less than 100 wearables. Today, they unveiled the Q Wander and Q Marshal Android Wear-powered smartwatches, as well as five more wearables.
Q Wander and Q Marshal have circular cases with multiple body style and strap options to choose from. Both support wireless charging and will start at $275 USD, a price that places them in direct competition with the Huawei Watch and the Moto 360. The other wearables include the Q Motion line with basic notification features that should retail for less than $100 USD, as well as the Smart Analog Movement lineup, an expansion of the Q Grant family that focuses on activity tracking and automatic time zone update capabilities.
Unfortunately, all the new Fossil wearables will launch later this year. We will get back to them as soon as Fossil reveals all the pricing and hardware details, so stay tuned.

Samsung Galaxy Tab E 7.0 LTE hits FC

Samsung Galaxy Tab E 7.0 SM-T825M Android slate with LTE
Samsung Galaxy Tab E 7.0 LTE at FCC
Since the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) got a silent release, the Tab E 7.0 (2016) might get the same treatment soon, as it has just been spotted in a FCC listing.
Samsung has just introduced the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) tablet in a silent manner, simply making it available for purchase without any official press release or event to go with that. Since that is a Lollipop-powered tablet that will not see any official Marshmallow update given its price range, the Galaxy Tab E 7.0 will probably hit the market in the same way.
Samsung Galaxy Tab E 7.0 might spend a few more days in the rumor mill before becoming official, since its LTE variant has just been spotted in a fresh FCC listing. To be more precise, the model that has been certified is Samsung SM-T825M, and its certifications include FDD-LTE, WCDMA, and the GSM networks. In addition to these, it was also certified for dual band WiFi and Bluetooth.
Samsung Galaxy Tab E 7.0 (2016) with LTE has a quad-core processor and uses a modest 7-inch IPS display with 1,280X800 pixels. Additional features include 1.5 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, probably 2 MP/5 MP cameras. We will probably hear about it hitting the market later this month, also loaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Verizon launches annual upgrade program for the Galaxy S7 series

Samsung Galaxy S7 free upgrade program coming to Verizon Wireless
Samsung Galaxy S7 lineup
Thanks to this program, owners of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will get the Galaxy S8 for free next year.
Although most flagship users skip at least one generation before upgrading, Verizon Wireless has decided to make things easy for those who want to own the most recent flagship at any time. Yesterday, the company introduced the new annual upgrade program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
According to Verizon, those who purchase one of the two new Samsung flaghips with the device payment option are eligible to get new handsets every year, and those who pre-ordered and are on the device payment option are automatically enrolled in the program. The customers part of the Verizon Annual Upgrade Program can just grab a new smartphone every year.
The Verizon Wireless website also says "You can upgrade 30 days after activating a new phone when more than 50% of the device price has been paid." In addition to the annual upgrade program, switchers or those who activate a new Galaxy S7 handset "can receive $100 when activating a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 edge." Unfortunately, this is a limited time offer.

Samsung SM-J210 shows up online

Samsung SM-J210 imported to India for testing, might be the Galaxy J2 (2016)
Samsung SM-J210 import document
A handset that looks to be the Galaxy J2 (2016) has been imported to India for testing and might hit the market soon.
This year's iteration of the Samsung Galaxy J1 has just hit the Chinese market while the completely new Galaxy J3 has recently made its debut as well. The Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) manuals have been spotted online, and it looks like these upcoming handsets will be the first budget smartphones from Samsung to feature a metallic frame. Earlier this week, a handset that is probably the upcoming Galaxy J2 has just been spotted online.
Unfortunately, there are no images coming with this rumor, since Samsung SM-J210 appears in a shipping manifest that does not reveal much. The units imported to India cost about $100 USD each and nothing has been confirmed for now. Industry insiders expect the Galaxy J2 to feature Samsung's AMOLED display technology and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop without any chances to upgrade to Marshmallow, just like the other J series handsets.
For now, we do not even know if the SM-J210 is the Galaxy J2 (2016) or another handset, but we will get back to it as soon as we hear more.

ARM and TSMC team up to develop a 7 nm chip

ARM Cortex A32 quad-core chip architectecture, ARM and TSMC team up for 7 nm chips
ARM Cortex A32 architectecture
The two companies already worked together on 16 nm and 10 nm chips, but now are teaming up to deliver 7 nm processors to the masses.
The first 7 nm chip came out last summer, and the company behind it was IBM. However, there is still enough time left until the processors built using this technology become available to the masses. Intel, for example, expects to have the first 7 nm processors available in more than 3 years from now. ARM and TSMC, on the other hand, are teaming up to deliver the first such chip to consumers worldwide.
ARM and TSMC worked together in the past and, according to the official press release, their latest agreements builds on the two companies' "success with previous generations of 16nm FinFET and 10nm FinFET process technology." The more recent benefits delivered to customers by the joint efforts of ARM and TSMC include early access to Artisan Physical IP and tape-outs of ARM Cortex-A72 on 16 nm and 10 nm FinFET.
According to Dr. Cliff Hou, vice president of R&D for TSMC, "Customers designing their next generation high-performance computing SoCs will benefit from TSMC’s industry-leading 7nm FinFET, which will deliver more performance improvement at the same power or lower power at the same performance as compared to our 10nm FinFET process node."
While there is no ETA available yet, IBM will not be able to mass produce 7 nm chips before 2018-2019, so ARM and TSMC should have at least two years at their disposal to come out first.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with Exynos SoC unofficially available in the US

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Android flagship with Exynos unofficially available in the US
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Although this variant is not officially on the US market and those who buy it will not get US warranty either, the Exynos-powered S7 Edge can be purchased on eBay.
The only Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge variants officially available in the US are driven by theQualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. While some early benchmark results revealed the Exynos-powered variants to be much slower than those using the Snapdragon chip, especially in the graphics department, recent tests have shown otherwise.
Fortunately, US-based consumers interested in the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with the Exynos 8890 processor on board can grab it from eBay. Seller 232tech offers the international Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935F) for $200 USD less than the regular price and also provides free shipping in the US. However, the $699.99 USD handset does not come with official US warranty and has no support for CDMA networks.
The SM-G935F is available in black, gold, and silver. If the recent test results get more confirmations, and the Exynos-driven Galaxy S7 is indeed faster than its Snapdragon sibling, maybe Samsung decides to make both variants officially available in the US. We will keep an eye on this story and report as soon as we hear something new.

Acer makes available the Switch 12 S Pro convertible

Acer makes available the Switch 12 S Pro convertible
Acer makes available the Switch 12 S Pro convertible
The 12.5-inch business notebook will have support for Acer's external Graphics Dock via its USB Type-C Gen. 2 port with prices starting at about 1300 Euros.
Announced late last November and then shown off at CES 2016, the Acer Switch 12 S Pro is finally launching next month for 1300 Euros with Skylake Core-M options. The 2-in-1 convertible comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro and includes an Active Stylus Pen.
The Switch 12 S Pro will carry the same design as the current Switch 12 S. Thus, the Pro version will use the same magnetic dock for easy attaching and detaching between the display and its base. Overall, users have four different usage modes: Notebook, Tablet, Stand, and Display.
First SKUs include the Switch SW7-272P with the item number NT.LB8EG.003, which will be equipped with 4 GB RAM, a 128 GB SSD, and a dual-core Intel Core m3-6Y30 SoC. A second SKU with the item number NT.LB8EG.004 will double the RAM and storage and will house an even faster Core m5-6Y54 SoC.
For stationary or desk use, the Switch 12 S Pro will be compatible with the new Acer Graphics Dock for external GPU (eGPU) support. The eGPU solution can be configured with up to aGeForce GTX 960M and includes numerous extra connectivity ports. The dock is made possible by the USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 port on the convertible similar to the Razer eGPU solution with the latest Blade Stealth notebook.

Acer Graphics Dock brings external GPU support for notebooks

Acer Graphics Dock brings external GPU support for notebooks
Acer Graphics Dock brings external GPU support for notebooks
The external dock will connect via USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 and include a built-in Nvidia GTX 960M GPU for 350 Euros.12s
Sacrificing GPU power for portability may be a thing of the past if Acer's external Graphics Dock (eGPU) can take off. The Taiwanese manufacturer is planning on having the Aspire Switch 12 S and Aspire R13 to be some of the first in-house notebooks to support the new Graphics Dock.
The dock itself measures just 245 x 130 x 22.8 mm and weighs only 700 grams for a price of just under 350 Euros. Shipments are expected to start as early as next month to coincide with the availability of the Switch 12 S Pro.
The Acer Graphics Dock differs from the Razer Core in that it does not support desktop GPUs, but will house an integrated GTX 960M GPU instead. Additional features include a USB Type-C Gen. 2 port, 3x USB 3.0, HDMI, 2x DisplayPort, gigabit LAN, and 3.5 mm audio jack. The dock will also include its own 135 W PSU.
Acer is hoping that its eGPU solution can transform any convertible in the workplace or office into a graphics powerhouse suitable for gaming. It remains to be seen just how loudly or quietly the thinly designed dock may run since some systems with the GTX 960M can have very audible fans when under gaming loads.

Over 10 million Galaxy S7 pre-orders placed in China so far

Chinese consumers pre-ordered 10 million Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge units
Samsung Galaxy S7 lineup
The pre-order period in China started on March 11th, will last until the 18th, and until then more than 15 million orders could be placed.
As we already know, Samsung managed to sell about 100,000 Galaxy S7 units in South Korea during the first two days these new flagships have spent on that market. On the other hand, the fact that China will add at least one more digit to that number is no surprise, given its size. However, the amount of orders already placed in advance of the official launch is impressive - apparently over 10 million already, in less than a week.
In China, pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge have begun on March 11th. Eight major retail channels are taking pre-orders and more than 6.35 million units have been reserved via JD.com. While Gome and Lynx already sold out their inventory, pre-orders at Suning crossed 1.3 million units. All in all, more than 10 million units should have been reserved already and it would not be a surprise to see the number reaching 15 million by March 18th.
Samsung mobile head DJ Koh recently said they have big hopes for the Chinese market and it looks like he was right to say so. We should have more Galaxy S7 pre-order and sale numbers soon, so stay tuned.

MediaTek Helio X25 SoC to power Meizu Pro 6, is a faster Helio X20

MediaTek Helio X20 SoC
This new deca-core mobile processor uses the same architecture as the Helio X20 but has higher clock speeds for both the compute and the graphics cores.
The rumors saying that Meizu Pro 6 will soon launch powered by aMediaTek Helio X20 processor were almost right, as the chip to power it was unveiled earlier today. During the launch event of the new MediaTek Helio X25 processor, Meizu officials confirmed that the upcoming Pro 6 will hit the market as the first handset to use this new mobile chipset.
MediaTek Helio X25 is nothing more but a slightly faster Helio X20. The new chip has ten cores as well and uses the same architecture as the Helio X20, but has higher clock speeds for both the processing cores and the part that handles the graphics. Meizu worked with MediaTek to develop this chip and will have exclusivity for a few months before the chip maker allows other companies to use it as well.
Compared to the Helio X20, the Helio X25 has the same tri-cluster setup, but its A72 cores run at 2.5 GHz (2.3 GHz on the X20) and the ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU now has a speed of 850 MHz, up from 780 MHz. Additional features of the chip include support for 25 MP camera sensors or dual 13 MP cameras, fast charging, 4K video support at 30 fps, Vulkan, VoLTE, and more.

Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO luxury smartwatch
Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO
Samsung has worked with many big names from the jewelry world to deliver custom portable devices and accessories, probably the most notorious such name being Swarovski. Now, the time has come for GRISOGONO, a company that has been in the jewelry business since 1993, entering the watch market 7 years later.
The result of the fashion collaboration between Samsung Electronics and GRISOGONO is the Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO, described as "a limited-edition jewelry watch designed and sculpted in gold and precious jewels." In terms of hardware, this is a standard Samsung Gear S2, but its design places it in the luxury smartwatch world. This limited edition luxury smartwatch"is transformed into smart fashion with rose gold, over 100 black and white diamonds and a bracelet studded with de GRISOGONO’s signature galuchat."
The limited edition Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO will be on display at Baselworld 2016, an event that begins tomorrow and closes its gates on the 24th of March. Unfortunately, there is no information about the price of this smartwatch, since it will go on sale this summer via the retail channels of both Samsung and de GRISOGONO.

This rugged smartwatch is the first Android Wear wearable in the world powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC and will come out later this year offering multiple customization options.
Nixon Mission rugged smartwatch
Nixon Mission
Although there are a few rugged smartwatches already on the market, they usually target active users who do not take many risks during their daily routine. For example, the Moto 360 Sportaims runners, while the Casio WSD-F10 is the ideal time piece for hikers and others who enjoy spending their time in the great outdoors. On the other hand, the new Nixon Mission targets more active people, since it offers full protection from water and the elements.
Nixon Mission has a circular AMOLED display and has been certified to carry a 10-ATM water resistance rating, thus being able to survive underwater for up to almost 330 feet. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, the Mission runs Google Android Wear "features a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports," such as Surfline, SnoCountry and Trace.
The new smartwatch will come with a very rich set of customization options, including up to 15 bezels and over 20 different bands. Some pieces of information like battery capacity and autonomy are not public yet, but there is plenty of time to check them out. Nexus Mission is expected to hit the market later this year for a price around $400 USD.
